Ingredients for Halal Indian Style Chicken Tikka Recipe

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless halal chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the chicken. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger and sauté until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook until it is no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes and heavy cream to the pot and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Garnish the chicken tikka masala with chopped fresh cilantro and serve over rice or with naan bread. Enjoy!
